Patricia Barnett –
Henry and Tempa’s story it’s a true testament to the power of love against all ad tremendous adversity, created by circumstances beyond their control. Powerful.

Lou and Henri. OMG. My heart was always in my throat for this couple! This story was written in such a way that I could see, feel and smell everything! Even the nasty stuff. I cried. I laughed. I loved. The fact that it was based on a true story made it become important and endearing. There was so much feelings. I could hear the birds and Henri’s mimicking them so clearly. Life was so rough back then that only the strong could survive. Lou’s story of life as Tempa gave me a better understanding of survival without staying a victim despite the abuse of many. Excellent portrayal. Talented author.

This is a book that resonates long after reading it. The trials Lou faced would defeat most and yet she struggled on. We all need a Henry in our life! Beautifully written!
Mommy5 –
This book found me roaming hills in a very young America. I learned a few things, both good and disturbing because through Suzette’s writing, I could visualize everything.

Couldn’t put this book down. Life in the West was rough & unforgiving but this young man & the spoiled dove found it. You won’t regret the time spent reading their history.

I enjoyed this inspired story. It was a snapshot in a live turned upside down by the hardships and cruel realities of living at the time. Never the less, I kept hoping for good things to come, ever hopeful. Well worth reading!
Grandma V –
The author has clearly searched lengthily for each word in this book and the result is amazing. There is not a trite sentence or phrase anywhere. She has captured the heart of the era as well as the heart of both Henry and Tempa. . She had the reader clinging to Tempa’s story as she slowly released its depths. It was a joy to read despite the tears that attempted to fall at times. A prodigious piece of work.
Booklover –
The author brought to life the story of Lou (Tempa) in a most mesmerizing manner of the difficult existence of a young girl who, upon losing her family to the influenza, can only survive through being a prostitute in the mining areas of Nevada at the turn of the 20th century. Henry, a German immigrant, who ironically comes to loathe the same man as Tempa but for different reasons, becomes her dedicated friend for saving his life, loving her through thick and thin. This well-written and researched story, using an abundance of descriptive analogies throughout. Despite a bit of confusion between past and present, all the the details become clear at the end. Highly recommended for those who can handle the realities of survival during the wild west era.
