Mary Kay Andrews has a unique talent for writing books that keep you reading when you should be sleeping or acting industrious. Her heroines are likable, and her storytelling is compelling. She knows how to inject a bit of humor while keeping the reader involved in a mystery.
Diana Kilbourne –
This book is great for Mary Kay Andrews fans as well as anyone who enjoys a little lighthearted mystery. The setting evokes feelings of the Don Cesar and beautiful Florida barrier islands. The characters are interesting and their friendships sweet. The mystery is interesting but not too gruesome.
R.H. McCort –
What a great summer read. St. Cecelia or “The Saint” is just the place you wish you were spending the summer at. Great pool, ocean, bars and restaurant with great food. Ms. Andrews takes the reader into a world of have and have not’s. Traci Eddings wasn’t a “Saint” but one summer Hoke Eddings and Traci fell in love, they married, but tragedy happened when Hoke died in a plane crash. Traci now under the terms of Hoke’s will manages the hotel. She isn’t well liked by her father-in-law or brother-in-law Ric, and the hotel is suffered because of Covid. Trying to become innovating changing the cart barn into a dorm for staff housing, is just one of the changes Traci made. Bringing the reader into learning more about the staff at “The Saint.” It was such a great read, almost wishing down the line a second book bringing the reader forward on what is happening at “The Saint.”
Laurel-Rain Snow –
Everyone refers to the St. Cecelia as “the Saint.” If you grew up coming here, you were “a Saint.” If you came from the wrong side of the river, you were “an Ain’t.” Traci Eddings was one of those outsiders whose family wasn’t rich enough or connected enough to vacation here. But she could work here. One fateful summer she did, and married the boss’s son. Now, she’s the widowed owner of the hotel, determined to see it return to its glory days, even as staff shortages and financial troubles threaten to ruin it. Plus, her greedy and unscrupulous brother-in-law wants to make sure she fails. Enlisting a motley crew of recently hired summer help—including the daughter of her estranged best friend—Traci has one summer season to turn it around. But new information about a long-ago drowning at the hotel threatens to come to light, and the tragic death of one of their own brings Traci to the brink of despair.Traci Eddings has her back against the pink-painted wall of this beloved institution. And it will take all the wits and guts she has to see wrongs put to right, to see guilty parties put in their place, and maybe even to find a new romance along the way. Told with Mary Kay Andrew’s warmth, humor, knack for twists, and eye for delicious detail about human nature, Summers at the Saint is a beach read with depth and heart. My Thoughts:As we follow the characters into the past in order to figure out the present and future, Summers at the Saint was a page turner that kept me enthralled throughout.I loved the primary characters, like Traci Eddings, along with some of the newer ones, like Livvy…and how all of them came together to turn the hotel around and solve a murder kept me intrigued throughout.Finding out the nefarious deeds of some of them was such fun and earned five stars from me.***
