I wish i had this book in my teenage years. But hey…like the saying goes ‘when the student is ready, the teacher shows up’. I’m glad i got this book. And helping me solidify my mind and heart in a healthy way. Or else, people will keep using you without having to worry about how you are doing yourself.

I was drawn to this book because I struggle saying no, particularly with regard to family members asking for money, etc. While some of what is covered ib this book doesn’t necessarily apply to my circumstances, there were various parts throughout where I felt like the examples used were describing me. In particular the parts where it talks about emotional manipulation and feeling guilty when you have to put your foot down. Without going into detail, I am in a circumstance where I need to back away from helping so much because it has become costly for me in various areas, but I have trouble saying no or I can’t because usually the response I face is remember I did so and so or some variation thereof.Because I have been put in such positions, it has admittedly taken a toll on me and the relationships I have with some due to my feeling like I’ve been taken advantage of. I particularly like what Mr. Zahariades covers about establishing boundaries, which is something I admittedly need to work on.From one writer to another however, I really enjoyed reading this and recommend to fellow readers that they use this book as a handbook as I think it is useful to go back and re-read some of the strategies covered here. It’s something I fully intend on doing going forward. Highly recommended.

Learned how to say no to not only others but also was surprised there were tips for saying no to yourself. I needed both. Delaying self gratification by saying no to junk food when your dieting and saying no to going out or sleeping while foregoing chores and healthy habits is great tools I will use daily.

This was well worth the money and the time to. Read it. I have started being more comfortable with saying no in situations at work where I am already dealing with a full work load and co workers need help and always seem to pick me as the person to help them.

I really wish I would’ve found this book sooner! When I started to become sober curious I was looking for ways to set boundaries. This book really puts things in perspective and I highly would recommend it if you are wanting to set boundaries in a healthy way. I reread this book twice because it’s good to do maintenance on lessons you learned. I now have no problems saying no for the past few years because of this book. As mentioned in the title, it’s a fairly easy read with good information that’s right to the point.
