I’ve read all of Mitch Albums books. After I finish the latest I think this his best one yet till I remember the others being just as good. Beside being great author Mr. Album is a real mensch which the world needs more of.

This was a difficult story to read especially because of the cruel anti-semitism that has escalated in 2023. But it’s so important to remember. Mitch Albom has a beautiful way with words and his creativity is on display here. No one writes with the same empathy that he does.

Having no idea what this book was about, I dove in and read it so quickly. The characters were so brave and the historical truths were heartbreaking. I feel like I have learned a lot from this and feel changed.
Cindy Dore –
This story is narrated by Truth! It is a fabulous and horrifying story of how the Nazis drove Jewish citizens from Greece to the camps. It is 4 lives connected and impacted by the horrors of World War II. It is a story that has frighteningly familiar incidents of lies, power grabs and deceit in our Country currently. A very worthwhile read.

At first I thought it was just another book about the holocaust!. No disrespect intended. However the way this book was written captured my attention and motivated my interest in the history of Jews in WW2.

I have not read a hardcover in a longtime. I was lost in this book until I finished it. It awakened many emotions of truth not told and the many lies we live with everyday. I hope all of my children and family read it. Mitch Albom wrote a book I will not forget.
Robert E. Schultz –
As I read I kept thinking “How is the author keeping track of these characters in this many layered story?” I believe it’s Mitch Album’s longest book and one of his best. Please excuse my lack of detailed analysis. I just finished it and am still affected by the emotions of completing and thinking about a wonderful story.

I have read Mitch Albom’s books, many of them, missed maybe one or two & I have enjoyed every one of them! I love the way he writes! If you think you won’t be able to keep track of everything going on, don’t worry…he has a way to keep your mind straight as to “who, & what” with things going on, so you won’t seem “scatter brained”!I highly recommend ANY of his books!
Sara Denman –
Mitch’s gift of storytelling is unmatched. This story brings life to the experience of Jews and the unfathomable horrors they endured. Following characters experiencing the Holocaust from its inception from starkly different perspectives as told from the Angel of Truth was tragic and equally heroic. The journey with Truth moved me to tears. As a reader and admirer of Mitch’s work since reading Tuesday’s with Morrie in high school, I continue to find a deeper appreciation for his gift of storytelling and teachings. Of the books I’ve read, this story will be held in my heart for a lifetime, along with the many lessons learned from my read of The Time Keeper. All of Mitch’s work hold such profound truths and meaning — already looking forward to the next!

The truth is, I would have read this novel anyway, being an admirer of Mitch Albom’s writing and work. And in this novel, the narrator is Truth. The setting for much of the novel is Saloniki in Greece, a place I have not yet visited, but I heard snippets about it, from occasional stories from my aunt Janine, born in Saloniki and married to my late uncle, who served there in the British army during the Second World War.What she didn’t tell me, until I came across a long interview she gave to the Imperial War Museum in London, is that her whole family had gone into hiding for almost two years In Saloniki and according to her were the only Jewish family who survived that period and came back to Saloniki as a family. There is a scene in Albom’s novel when a survivor from Auschwitz returns to his family home only to be met by a local, who claimed to have paid a Nazi for the property. The story focuses on three Jewish children and a Nazi officer, and as most of Mitch Albom’s stories, has a moral as it’s source. This time the moral is what happens when we lie and how a lie, even if it unintentionally told, can have far reaching consequences over the years, and all over the world.
